MFHS is proud to announce a new partnership with the Mid-Atlantic Mothers’ Milk Bank (MAMMB) to serve as an official milk depot at the MFHS Circle of Care in Scranton. Approved milk donors may now donate breast milk locally, helping expand access to donor milk for infants in need.

A milk depot serves as a community-based drop-off location where donors who have completed screening and approval through MAMMB can safely donate frozen breast milk. The donated milk is transported to the milk bank for processing and distribution to medically vulnerable infants and young children.

“This partnership allows MFHS to support families in a new and meaningful way,” said Maria Montoro Edwards, President and CEO of Maternal and Family Health Services. “By serving as a milk depot, we are making it easier for eligible donors in Northeastern Pennsylvania to share an invaluable resource that can help improve health outcomes for infants who need donor milk. We are proud to work alongside Mid-Atlantic Mothers’ Milk Bank to provide support for babies and families who need it most.”

The mission of Mid-Atlantic Mothers’ Milk Bank is to improve the health and survival of medically vulnerable infants and young children through the safe collection, pasteurization, and provision of donor milk. The nonprofit organization serves families across Pennsylvania and the neighboring states of West Virginia, New Jersey, Maryland and Delaware.

As a milk depot, MFHS is committed to increasing convenience and participation for approved donors and expanding access to donor milk for infants in need.

Healthy, lactating parents who have more milk than their own baby needs may be eligible to become donors. Donors come from many backgrounds, including parents with an abundant milk supply, families whose own infants received donor milk, healthcare professionals, bereaved mothers, and surrogates. All donors must complete a thorough screening and approval process through MAMMB before making a donation.
