WIC Means…

WIC Nutrition > WIC Means…

WIC isn’t just about nutrition. It’s about giving your baby the healthiest start. At MFHS, we strongly believe in education to give your baby the strongest foundation for a healthy, happy future.

That’s why WIC provides access to care and community resources as well as education on safe sleep, SIDs prevention, infant care, and family wellness because a good night’s sleep is just as important as good nutrition.

Participating in WIC means you get more than healthy groceries. MFHS provides guidance, care, and community. Together, we can make sure your baby grows up strong, healthy, and safe

WIC Means… Safe Sleep

Safe Sleep means creating a peaceful, secure environment that helps your baby rest safely and comfortably. By following simple infant safe sleep practices, you can lower risks and help your baby develop healthy sleep habits from the start.

Here are some infant sleep tips recommended by health experts:

  • Place your baby on their back for every nap and bedtime.
  • Use a firm, flat sleep surface with a fitted sheet.
  • Keep your baby’s sleep area free of blankets, pillows, and toys.
  • Room share, not bed share. Keep your baby’s crib or bassinet near your bed.
  • Keep the sleep space smoke-free and clutter-free.
  • Breastfeed when possible and offer a pacifier at sleep times

If you’re wondering how to safely co-sleep or whether an infant can sleep with a pacifier,  talk to your WIC Staff or visit the links below to learn more about safe options and other baby care practices that work best for your family.

WIC Means… Car Seat Safety

A properly fitted car seat is your child’s best protection on the road. Car seat safety means using the right seat for your child’s age/size (rear-facing longest, then forward-facing harness, then booster), installing it tightly in the back seat (middle is best, away from airbags), and securing the harness correctly (snug, chest clip at armpits) for every ride.
