Maternal & Family Health Services is looking for a full-time RN Supervisor to join our Nurse Family Partnership (NFP) South team in Luzerne County. NFP is an education-based, free, voluntary, home visiting nurse program where nurses assist eligible moms, often very young and without support, throughout their pregnancy and stay with the mother until the child is 2 years old.
The Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) Supervisor provides guidance and oversight to program implementation to ensure that the NFP program is implemented in accordance with established guidelines and contract requirements. Uses principles of supervision, reflective practice, and staff development, to provide primary support and appropriate oversight to the Nurse Home Visitors, and to build and model a strengths-based, client-centered culture.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Assist in the recruitment and hiring of all NFP Home Visit Nurses and administrative data support staff ensuring that they can implement the NFP philosophy and model. Assess and develop strategies to address knowledge and skill needs of home visitors and support staff. Assign client caseloads and monitor home visitor’s ability to build and manage caseload. Provide supervision and evaluation of home visitors and provide useful developmental feedback and confront and resolve issues.
- Ensure that all staff, including supervisor, attend all required NFP education sessions as outlined in the pre-training manuals. Develop methods for ongoing assessment of staff development needs and compare available data to structure appropriate continuing education and guidance to staff.
- Ensure the supervision of home visitors utilizes principles and concepts of the parallel process and reflective practice (modeling therapeutic relationships, change theory, self-efficacy, client-centered, strength based and solution focused approaches). Develop and implement regular reflective practice supervision within the program, conduct field visits, provide regular case conferences and team meetings all with frequency recommended by NFP guidelines.
- Develop and maintain community referral sources for the NFP program. Develop and implement external and internal systems to assure timely receipt and disposition of referrals to and from the NFP.
- Oversee and ensure timely and accurate data input and utilizations of the web-based CIS reports and other reports available through NFP. Read and interpret CIS reports and share appropriately with team and partners.
- Become familiar with and actively participate in the preparation and monitoring of the NFP budget. Build confidence and skill of Nurse Home Visitors. Evaluate implementing agency outcomes and interventions.
- Supports policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards of NFP and MFHS.
- Participates in community coalition in support of NFP and promotes public awareness of NFP as requested/required; and develops and maintains community relationships for referrals.
- Stays informed of current health care developments to provide safe, quality nurse home visiting services and establishes and records progress toward annual goals.
- Promote and contribute to organizational and programmatic goals of MFHS.
- Understands, supports, models, and coaches’ others in the NFP vision and mission to clients and colleagues.
- Assists in creating a positive work environment that promotes productivity, mentoring, teamwork, and cooperation.
- Creates, maintains, and supports a safe environment for open discussion, maintains confidentiality, and seeks and responds appropriately to feedback.
- Assist with other duties as directed.
Minimum Qualifications Required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
- 1-3 years’ experience in maternal/child health, public health, home visiting preferred
- Good verbal communication – ability to speak complete sentences using appropriate vocabulary and grammar to obtain information, explain procedures or processes, and/or persuade others to accept or adopt an opinion or action.
- Experience in maternal/child health, public health, home visiting preferred
- Current PA RN License and CPR Certification
- Child Abuse, PA Criminal Record & FBI Clearances
- Be accessible to nurses until 7:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday to answer questions or assist nurses with emergency type situations.
- Use independent judgment and discretion in dealing with highly confidential information and sensitive situations.
- Respond effectively and efficiently in high stress situations and deal with people under adverse circumstances.
