SUMMARY

The Maternal Health Coalition Project Coordinator is responsible for the successful collaboration of MFHS with community partners, taskforces, and system partners to develop, implement, and support a maternal health coalition for the purpose of implementing and evaluating strategies recommended by the PA Maternal Mortality Review Committee (MMRC) which were created to improve maternal health outcomes, promote maternal health equity, and reduce health disparities in PA. The Project Coordinator will connect with the relevant groups and healthcare practitioners and lead the effort to plan, develop, coordinate, and implement a Maternal Health Coalition(s) in the identified regions – Bradford, Carbon, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Lehigh, Monroe, Northampton, Pike, Schuylkill, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Tioga, Wayne and Wyoming

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Identify and convene community members, leaders, and experts from diverse sectors, and facilitate dialogue about the issues, data, community contest, and available resources.
  • Recruit coalition members which reflect the racial and ethnic diversity of the coalition region and according to grant specifications. Conduct an asset and gap analysis to identify key partners and decisionmakers, current initiatives aimed at reducing maternal morbidity and mortality, relevant organization and community factors, and available resources.
  • Facilitate coalition members to assist in establishing a clear governing structure and method for operating, defining roles and responsibilities, and setting meeting schedules and key objectives. Implement an evidence-based or practice-based community engagement framework to more deeply understand the unique circumstances that influence maternal health in the region.
  • Coordinate the activities of the coalition which include but are not limited to engaging the community, collecting and analyzing data, and providing education, training, or technical assistance.  
  • Attend and actively participate in meetings with relevant committees and organizations.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of evidence-based education and training programs in collaboration with the coalition and MFHS clinical leadership and health practitioners on maternal morbidity and mortality, racial health disparities, and racism/antiracism. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of education programs, utilizing pre-and-post assessment tools, surveys, and participation and engagement data. Assist in the coordination of outreach and multimedia communications in collaboration with MFHS resource navigators and marketing staff.
  • Provide and coordinate administrative support, facilitation, project management, and data collection and management for the coalition’s efforts and to meet established program and grant objectives.
  • Prepare reports and analyses of Coalition’s action plan and data collection, monitor progress, utilize data to evaluate and define strategies, ensure public progress reports are written and disseminated as required, and assist with quarterly and annual grant reports.
  • Promote and contribute to organizational and programmatic goals of MFHS. 
  • Attend clinical and program meetings as required.
  • Assist with other duties to support the goals of the grant.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required; master’s degree preferred
  • 8+ years of experience in women’s health, maternal-child services, public health and policy, health equity and/or advocacy.

WORK RELATED KNOWLEDGE

  • Understanding of issues with health equity, maternal morbidity and mortality, racial health disparities, and/or racism.

OTHER ABILITIES/SKILLS

  • Ability to function independently and as part of a team
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills with a diverse group.
  • Ability to develop and foster partnerships by engaging in community-based outreach.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills including experience managing programs, projects, and/or
  • Occasional travel may be required (10% or less).
