A Visit To Circle Of Care
Many people ask us what it’s like to visit a MFHS center. What happens there? What are the services like? What is the staff like? In order to better understand and explain what happens on a trip to Maternal & Family Health Services, we spent some time last week at The Circle Of Care in Scranton. There’s no better way to learn than to spend a day observing in person!
During the course of the day, there was a steady stream of patients coming and going at the office. With such crucial services like family planning, pre-natal care, nutrition counseling and even well baby checks happening, it’s not surprising that things can get a little busy.
Throughout the whole day, the support and positive attitudes of the Circle of Care staff shone through. Every patient was greeted with a smile, every question was answered, and every visitor was on the path to a healthier life. We expected to see as much, but it was still impressive to watch it all in action.
Circle of Care is a unique part of the MFHS family as they provide “one stop shopping” of sorts with so many programs housed under one roof. They also test new programs out that may eventually be added to more of our locations. Women are able to come in for the pregnancy care that they need – which may include WIC, breastfeeding support, the Nurse- Family Partnership program, wellness checks, and nutritional counseling through Healthy Beginnings Plus. What an expecting mother eats can have a direct impact on their developing baby. It can be further compounded when issues arise, like gestational diabetes. The expert staff can help guide mothers to make healthy choices for their babies.
One of the newest, and most exciting programs that MFHS is offering at Circle of Care are well baby checks, which allows mothers that have been with us through their pregnancy to continue to get the care they need from the staff they already know.
