WIC Nutrition Program
The WIC Nutrition Program provides healthy foods and nutrition education for pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding parents, infants, and children up to age 5. Full income guidelines are available here. Some of the most common eligibility requirements are:
- WIC determines income based on all the members of a household. If you are pregnant, count your unborn baby in family size.
- Have a nutritional or medical need.
- Live in Pennsylvania. U.S. citizenship is not a requirement for eligibility.
- If you qualify for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Medicaid, or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), you automatically qualify for WIC.
Reproductive Health
MFHS offers caring, confidential health care for you and your partner, including pregnancy testing, STD testing and treatment, birth control, emergency contraception, and complete gynecological care.
- Adolescents under 18 years of age can receive services for free.
- Adults who cannot afford to pay may be free, or pay on a sliding scale based on their income. MFHS will never turn someone away based on their ability to pay.
- MFHS also accepts many private insurances.
Maternity Services
MFHS offers complete wrap-around pregnancy care at the Circle of Care in Scranton, including medical, nutrition, lab work, ultrasounds, counseling and social services that are tailored to meet your individual needs – helping empower you to care for yourself as well as your child.
- Pregnancy care provided through the Healthy Beginnings Plus Program is free for pregnant people who meet the income requirements.
- MFHS also accepts many private insurances.
- If a parent to be is currently uninsured, Medical Assistance income guidelines are higher for pregnant people than for the general population. Many people may be eligible and not realize it.
Nurse-Family Partnership
Get connected with a free, personal nurse to help guide you through your pregnancy and help you prepare to raise a healthy, happy baby.
- The Nurse-Family Partnership is a free program for low income prenatal mothers.
- Enrollment is required during pregnancy. Earlier in pregnancy is preferred (ideally before 28 weeks), but enrollment can take place any time prior to delivery.
- Income guidelines: 235% of the federal poverty level. If you have WIC or Medical Assistance you are eligible.
